Easter is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate with your little ones than with some fun thematic play? As two Mum’s who are super passionate about play-based learning, we have put our heads together to come up with five thematic play ideas for Easter. So whether you have a baby or a 5-year-old, there are plenty of fun and engaging activities to enjoy together these Easter holidays.
Here are our top 5 Easter play ideas that are sure to bring a smile to your child’s face:
1. Easter Egg Shakers
Create a fun Easter-themed musical activity for your little ones. Pinch and tape closed one end of a toilet paper roll and fill it with rice or beans before closing off the other. Decorate your new DIY shakers with Easter-themed stickers and start making music. There are plenty of bunny songs you can jam away to on Spotify. Want the real deal? Gumnut Music also stocks affordable Egg Shakers that would look adorable with some bunny stickers adorning them.
2. Hop Little Bunnies
This song is an anthem for young children! Get ready because your lounge room will transform into a giggly bunny moshpit. Find the Sleeping Bunnies video in our GM TV subscription and play along with us. If you’re not a subscriber (firstly, why not? Try us out for 1 week FREE. Secondly…), just type the song into Spotify or play any other upbeat music your children may like to hop along to. Giggles guaranteed!
3. Sensory Bin
Fill a large container with shredded paper or Easter grass and hide our Grapat Mandala Rainbow Eggs or Mandala Eggs. Your child will love digging through the grass to find hidden treasure. For extra fun! Team this play with one of our Bunny Puppets or our Easter Chick Puppet so your children can add some dramatic and imaginative play into their exploration too!
4. Easter Egg Hunt
Hide our Egg Shakers or Grapat Mandala Eggs around your home or backyard and let your little ones search for them. We have a song and play showcasing this on GM TV called I Have a Basket which was written and recorded for just this! It’s a great way to practice for the Easter Bunny’s visit and play Easter hide-and-seek.
5. Egg Decorating
Looking for a craft activity? Especially one you could gift? Our Wooden Eggs are perfect! They can be left natural or decorated – the choice is yours. If you’d like to unleash your creativity, you can decorate them with markers, stickers, paints, felts, flowers (the possibilities are endless!) or even natural dyes made from fruits and vegetables. A decorated egg makes for a thoughtful gift, and a plain (waiting to be decorated) egg is a lovely invitation to unleash creativity for someone you love.
